The Department of General-, Visceral surgery and Surgical Oncology is one of the largest cancer treatment providing hospitals in Germany. Our institution is a renowned “National Center of Excellence for Diseases of the Esophagus and Stomach”. Further we are certified centers for Diseases of the pancreas and Intestinal cancers.

Our main areas of research is experimental and clinical research of upper gastrointestinal and pancreatic cancers, including the assessment of response prediction to neo-adjuvant and adjuvant multimodal therapies.
We investigate patient- tumor- and molecular inherent factors throughout different therapeutic algorithms with the aim to facilitate the upmost preselection of patients for highly individual therapeutic regimens.
